Our people

Police officers

City of London Police Officer’s play a vital role in delivering a police service that is valued by those who live, work and visit the City of London.

As the National Lead Force for Economic Crime roles for police officers vary from investigating complex fraud which could have international connections to community based policing.

Whilst policing the square mile makes the force the smallest territorially we host a number of specialist units and our innovative ideas have led to National Programmes such as Project Servator.

Police Staff

Working for the City of London Police and contributing to delivering a police service that is valued by those who live, work and visit the City of London is not only undertaken by our police officers but our team of professional staff working behind the scenes. It’s these skilled people who provide the organisational capability to police the City. Our police staff function is extremely diverse and vital to effective policing in the City. It is made up of many different roles to support front-line officers, including dealing with public enquiries, gathering evidence at the scene of a crime, providing IT, Human Resources, strategic support, administration, recruitment and financial support to name but a few.

Due to the diverse nature of Policing Volunteer roles, we will discuss with you potential open roles on an individual basis. These roles can range from supporting the management of a project, from helping to reduce crime to volunteering in an investigation team, from providing administrative support to giving guided tours of the Force museum.

We are also building out our capacity in Police Community Support Volunteer and Policing Support Volunteer roles where uniformed Policing Volunteers will be given policing powers after appropriate training.

You need to live in London or the home counties and be over 18 to apply. We will provide training and reimburse out-of-pocket expenses. For further information and an application form, please email VPO@cityoflondon.police.uk.

Volunteer Police Officer

Volunteer Police Officers (or Special Constables) are unpaid members of the community who are trained to support the City of London Police in providing policing on a part-time basis. They have the same powers as a 'regular' police officer and wear the same uniform.

As a Volunteer Police Officer, you will deal with situations and people you would probably never encounter in your day-to-day life. Your duties can include foot and mobile uniformed patrols, responding to incidents, supporting vulnerable people, initial investigation of crimes and supporting ceremonial events.

City Volunteer Police Officers are rewarded for their time and energy, not through pay, but from the experiences that would normally never be encountered at home or work. Volunteer Police Officers will see the best and worst of human nature and learn more about life than most people would ever do.

You need to live in London or the home counties and be over 18 to apply. We will provide training and reimburse out-of-pocket expenses. For further information and an application form, please email VPO@cityoflondon.police.uk.
